3 Reasons to Pamper Yourself at a Cruise Ship Spa

I don’t know about you, but I’m a sucker for a cruise ship spa. I love the atmosphere, the treatments, and how I’m essentially forced to sit and relax for an extended period of time. (Ha!)

On my last Disney Cruise, I booked a day pass at Rainforest, the cruise line’s exclusive spa area. And friends, I was not disappointed. It was heavenly.

And that got me thinking: you might think a cruise ship spa day isn’t worth the time or money.

But I can think of at least 3 reasons you should hit that “book” button (or ask me to do it for you. Wink wink.)!

Keep reading to learn why I recommend you consider a spa day on your next cruise!

Cruise Ship Spa Perk #1: It’s a No Kid Zone

While I love to spend time with kids, sometimes I need a break! And there’s a good chance your cruise will be filled with a ton of children (unless you’re on a Virgin Cruise.)

All cruise ship spas are adults-only, which will you give you an opportunity to relax without being asked for a snack every hour, on the hour.

Cruise Ship Spa Perk #2: A Relaxing Day at Sea

Most cruises will have at least one day at sea when the ship travels between ports.

A spa day will help pass that time in the most relaxing way! Why not get a massage, facial, (or both!) while traveling between islands?

Cruise Ship Perk #3: It’s Prime Relaxation Time

Cruises are a lot of fun. There’s plenty of excitement, entertainment, music, and more.

But after a few days, you’ll probably crave some peace and quiet, and the cruise spa can give you that.

Cruise Ship Spa Basics

Now that I’ve convinced you to book a spa day on your next cruise, here are a few things to remember:

  1. Treatments are not included in your cruise fare, but you can book and pay for them before your cruise disembarks, making your vacation feel more inclusive.

  2. You can only enjoy the spa while you’re there for your treatment, but many cruise lines offer spa day passes for special areas of the spa that often include saunas, pools, cold rooms, and more.

  3. Gratitudes are included in the price of the treatment. While most cruises will give you a check that includes a space for a tip, an 18% tip is already totaled into your bill, so don’t feel obligated to give more.

  4. Most cruise ship spas will be busier on at-sea days, so it’s best to book in advance or as soon as you get on board the ship. Also, keep in mind that the salon will likely be booked in advance of special events, such as formal night, so you’ll want to make those appointments ahead of time, too.

Cruise Ship Spa Spotlight: Disney’s Rainforest Room

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Disney Cruise Line’s Rainforest Room–an exclusive section of their spas.

Each ship has a Rainforest Room; a pass is required for admittance, and you can purchase day or length-of-cruise passes. You do not need to book a treatment in order to gain access to the room.

While features vary by ship, you can expect private hot tubs, steam rooms, showers, and more.

And on Disney’s Wish, you’ll gain access to secluded hot tubs that overlook the front of the ship.

My favorite part? The outdoor seating on the Disney Wish, which offers incredible views in a quiet, secluded space. But remember that each cruise’s Rainforest Room is different!

Wrapping Up

I can’t recommend a cruise ship spa day enough! It’s the perfect way to relax and unwind after a few days at sea–especially if you need some time to recharge.

Remember:

  1. Treatments are not included in your cruise fare.

  2. Unless you purchase a day pass, you can only enjoy the spa for the duration of your treatment.

  3. Gratuity is included.

  4. You can expect the spa to be very busy on at-sea days, so it’s best to make your appointment as soon as you book your cruise.
