Winter is a great time to travel! Not only does it often offer a way to escape the doldrums of the colder months, but travel is typically less costly in the winter as well!
But not all travel destinations are created equal. As an experienced travel professional, I’ve seen the best–and the worst–of winter travel.
But don’t worry! Today, I’m sharing my top 3 winter vacations for families in 2023. My list has something for everyone, so keep reading to get the inside scoop!
Universal Studios
While Disney World is famous for being *the* family friendly vacation destination, Universal is actually perfect for families as well!
This theme park is less busy January-March and Orlando is the perfect place to escape the cold winter weather.
Home to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, and Transformers: The 3D Ride, there’s literally something for everyone at Universal Studios, Orlando.
I recommend families check out Universal’s Cabana Bay Resort for accommodations.
This is a budget friendly resort with an onsite bowling alley, onsite car rental, and it’s within walking distance to Volcano Bay–Universal’s water park.
Plus, their family suites can accommodate up to six people!
So when should you book your winter getaway? The further out the better, but you’ll be fine if you book at least 2-3 months in advance.

Disney Cruise Lines
If you’re considering a winter cruise, I highly recommend Disney Cruise Lines.
Disney cruises are great for first time cruisers and offer something for everyone–not just kids!
BONUS: If you’re looking to skip the lines and crowds of Disney World without sacrificing the theming, customer service, and experience of Disney, a Disney cruise is perfect for you.
Plus, Disney often offers fantastic (and I mean fantastic) promotions on their cruises.
Again, it’s best to book well in advance in order to take advantage of the promotions and plan your trip, but you should be fine if you reserve your trip 6 ahead of time.
