3 Reasons You Should Book a Pre-Cruise Hotel Stay

My clients often ask me if they really need to book a pre-cruise hotel stay.

My answer is almost always, “yes!”

Arriving to your port at least one day before your cruise departs gives you peace of mind and can alleviate so much stress!

But in case you need more convincing, I’’ll share 3 reasons you should arrive at your port at least a day before your cruise departs. Keep reading to learn more!

Reason #1 To Book a Pre-Cruise Hotel Stay: Travel Delays

Think about the last time you had to travel by plane. (I know–it’s probably been a while!)

Did you fly direct or did you have a connection or two? Did all your flights leave on time?

If you travel to your port the same day your cruise leaves, what happens if there are …

  • Mechanical delays?

  • Crew delays?

  • Weather delays?

You get the idea.

Also consider flight cancellations or lost luggage.

Your cruise ship won’t wait for you, so it’s better to build in plenty of time before your ship departs.

“What If I’m Driving?”

Well, I still recommended you consider arriving at your port the day before your cruise sets sail–especially if you have a long drive.

Here are a few factors to consider:

  • Car accidents

  • Flat tires

  • Cracked windshield/windshield replacement

  • Dead battery

  • Major traffic delays/detours

Remember: the ship doesn’t wait for anyone but the captain, so it’s better to play it safe and give yourself a lot of wiggle room.

Reason #2 to Book a Pre-Cruise Hotel Stay: It Takes the Edge Off of Jet Lag

Do you want to spend your first day on the boat exhausted and jet-lagged? Probably not.

Arriving at least a day before your cruise departs will give you time to rest and help you ease into the time zone.

Reason #3 to Book a Pre-Cruise Hotel Stay: It Gives You a Chance to Explore a New City

Many cruise ports are chock full of museums, parks, and other attractions!

Take Miami, for example. Not only does it have some of the country’s most beautiful beaches, but it’s also home to Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, Little Havana, and The Miami Seaquarium,

When you arrive at  least a day before your cruise leaves, you’ll have time to explore the city, try new restaurants, and even pick up a souvenir or two.

Wrapping Up

I almost always recommend my clients book a pre-cruise hotel stay for at least one night before their cruise departs.

Why?

  • It gives you peace of mind

  • Helps with jet-lag

  • Allows you to explore a new city
