3 Reasons Universal Studios is the Perfect Family Vacation Destination
I have a confession to make. As much as I love Disney World, I think Universal Studios, Orlando, is just as suitable (if not more!) for families.
Sure, Disney is known for its family-friendly theming and offerings, but Universal has some pretty sweet features for families, too!
This theme park has something for everyone, making it perfect for younger kids as well as teenagers and adults.

Child Swap and Family Rooms
If a child in your party isn’t up for (or isn’t tall enough) to ride a big roller coaster or more mature ride, you can utilize the park’s child swap system. Here’s how it works, according to Universal:
“Each ride and attraction has a family room where one member of your party can wait with the little ones while the rest of your party rides. Once they are finished, switch places so whoever rode can stay with the kids, and the adult(s) who sat out can enjoy the ride.”
While Disney also offers this service, Universal has family rooms that are lightly themed and, of course, air conditioned, making them a pleasant place to relax while your party enjoys the attraction.
These rooms are also perfect for guests, such as grandparents or those with motion sickness, who want to spend time with their party in line but not on the attraction.
Nursing Suites
If you’re traveling with a nursing baby or toddler, Universal offers 4 comfortable and quiet nursing suites. These are located …
In the First Aid Station at Family Services (located to the right of the Lost & Found in Universal Studios);
At the Health Services main station, located on Canal Street in the New York area;
In the First Aid Station at Universal’s Islands of Adventure;
And in the First Aid Station at Universal’s Volcano Bay.
These rooms are air conditioned, include rocking chairs and changing tables, and even have flat screen TVs and books for little ones to enjoy while you nurse.
(Be aware that since these suites are located inside First Aid Stations, you might encounter sick or injured guests while you make your way through the facilities toward the nursing rooms.)
Bonus tip: The First Aid Station and nursing suites are also a great place to rest and relax if your little one is a little over stimulated from their vacation!
Manageable Wait Times and Walking Distances
Let’s face it. Disney is HUGE. It can take days (even weeks!) to enjoy everything the theme parks have to offer.
Universal, however, is much more manageable in terms of walking distances and ride wait times.
For example, my son and I were able to visit all 3 sections of Universal in 3 days.
